So what is the New Chromebook?
Chromebook is a totally new way to interact with the internet through Google's Chrome OS.
Before we get into the Chromebooks themselves let's talk a bit about what makes Chromebook so different.
Right now if you are sitting in front of a desktop or using a laptop the internet is basically an add on. Your computer and its operating system is most times used for non-internet activities and this means that your computer probably has tons of programs and takes forever to boot up before you get to the internet.
Now this is fine if you want to use spreadsheets or for word processing but what if your main intent is to browse the internet, stay connected to your friends and want to share photos, videos and hit Facebook all throughout the day?
Where Chromebooks Differ
If you owned one of the new Chromebooks, you would turn it on and within 8 seconds you would be connected to the internet with the Google Chrome interface. No waiting for unneeded programs to load. Chromebooks are made for the internet.
You no longer have to worry about updating any of your applications or operating system as it it done automatically without any intervention from you. It's all seamless.
Without additional programs to bog down your Chromebook, you have blazing internet speeds ( yes, you are still limited by your internet connection) but you have to remember that this is a dedicated internet "laptop" so all of it's power is utilized for one main function. You won't have 50 other programs running in the background.
Now that you have a quick idea of what Chromebook is let's take a look at a few Chromebooks
While the initial testing phase had a very limited selection ( actually there was just 1 Chromebook), with the public release there will be 6 Chromebooks to begin with.

There will be 4 Samsung Chromebooks and 2 Acer Chromebooks available to order on June 15th and there will more than likely be more on the way since it appears that Chromebooks are the wave of the future.
While there are a few minor differences between the models there are a few things that you should keep in mind.
- You'll notice that all of the Chromebooks have a small storage capacity ( about 16 GIG's). However with a Chomebook you won't need internal storage since you will have unlimited online storage using the Cloud.
- The Chromebooks only have 2 GB's of memory. Remember again that you won't be needing memory to power up unneeded programs the 2 GIGs is dedicated to exactly what the main intention of the Chromebook was meant to do - browse and interact with the web.
- Battery life is 8 hours plus so you can stay out all day and not have to worry about charging or plugging in.
- With Chromebooks you have a choice of connecting through wi-fi or 3G. 3G is through a subscription with Verizon with plans that start at Free for 100MB of data per month ( for years included with Chromebook purchase) with additional charges for day passes and bandwith.
- Security is built right in so there is no need for virus protection software.

- Since your data is stored on the Cloud if you lose or forget your Chromebook and you need to access your data you can log into another Chromebook and you can retrieve your data - and your data is safe. While more than one person can use a Chromebook your data is only retrievable by you.
- No need to update any software as the Chromebook will automatically update if needed as you boot up ( and yes boot up is only 8 seconds) soft boot is basically instant on.
- The keyboard on the Chromebooks are built for the web with many keys specifically created to make browsing fast & easy.
- As you would expect the Chromebooks have a built in webcam, speakers, usb ports and HDMI port.
All your favorite apps are at your fingertips and with the Chromebooks being about the size of an 11" netbook and weighing about 3 pounds, you'll find that you will want to take your every where you go.
