Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook

Normally with netbooks you have to sacrifice power for potability but with the newer versions such as this Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 netbook you will find it more powerful so there is no sacrificing.    Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 HD Netbook

Sure, you are not going to have the same amount of power that your laptop or desktop has but if you have used a netbook before and was disappointed in how slow it performed and how it would chug along with some programs than you will be pleasantly surprised with this netbook.

 Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 Highlights

  • Windows Home Premium - unlike many other netbooks that just have the Windows Starter version the Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 has the fully functional Premium version.
  • The processor is dual core AMD C-Series Processor C-50 so you can see where multi-tasking will be easier and quicker. The biggest drawbacks of previous models of netbooks would be the inability to use certain programs as the netbook just couldn't handle it.  However processors have evolved and give you more power.
  • 2GB of single channel memory.  It is upgradable to 4 GB ( as the video below mentions and also if you take a look at the customer reviews for this item --> here,  you can see where a few customers discuss the upgrade process) and I do wish that this netbook would have come with the full memory right out of the box. You will probably want to upgrade so why not start off with 4 GB to begin with.  It is a single channel although it may look like a 2 channel but only 1 channel has connectors.
  • Full-Size Acer FineTip Keyboard with a multi-gesture touchpad. I prefer a mouse instead of a touchpad  for many applications but this touchpad does have a few features that could convince me to leave my mouse at home. I do like the page flip feature.

Graphics on the Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454

This Acer netbook does have ATI Radeon™ HD 6250 Graphics with 256MB of dedicated system memory so you will be to watch videos and movies without many of the streaming issues of the past.  This netbook also has HDMI output so you can hook it up to your big screen television if you like.

You will also find 3 USB 2.0 ports,  digital card reader, web cam,  stereo speakers and an estimated 7 hours of battery life.  If you plan on watching a lot of videos or streaming sites like Hulu you'll find that your battery power won't last as long.  Many customers mention that they have about 5 hours of battery when they use their Acer AO722-BZ454 for streaming.

All in all you find that the Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 is a great value.

Chromebook – Taking a Look at the New Chromebook Laptops

by 10 Inch Laptops No comments »

So what is the New Chromebook?

Chromebook is a totally new way to interact with the internet through Google's Chrome OS.

Before we get into the Chromebooks themselves let's talk a bit about what makes Chromebook so different.       Acer Chromebook

Right now if you are sitting in front of a desktop or using a laptop the internet is basically an add on. Your computer and its operating system is most times used for non-internet activities and this means that your computer probably has tons of programs and takes forever to boot up before you get to the internet.

Now this is fine if you want to use spreadsheets or for word processing but what if your main intent is to browse the internet, stay connected to your friends and want to share photos, videos and hit Facebook all throughout the day?

Where Chromebooks Differ

If you owned one of the new Chromebooks, you would turn it on and within 8 seconds you would be connected to the internet with the Google Chrome interface. No waiting for unneeded programs to load.  Chromebooks are made for the internet.

You no longer have to worry about updating any of your applications or operating system as it it done automatically without any intervention from you.  It's all seamless.

Without additional programs to bog down your Chromebook, you have blazing internet speeds ( yes, you are still limited by your internet connection) but you have to remember that this is a dedicated internet "laptop" so all of it's power is utilized for one main function. You won't have 50 other programs running in the background.

Now that you have a quick idea of what Chromebook is let's take a look at a few Chromebooks

While the initial testing phase had a very limited selection ( actually there was just 1 Chromebook), with the public release there will be 6 Chromebooks to begin with.
See all 6 Chromebooks HereSee all Chromebooks here

There will be 4 Samsung Chromebooks and 2 Acer Chromebooks available to order on June 15th and there will more than likely be more on the way since it appears that Chromebooks are the wave of the future.
While there are a few minor differences between the models there are a few things that you should keep in mind.

  • You'll notice that all of the Chromebooks have a small storage capacity ( about 16 GIG's). However with a Chomebook you won't need internal storage since you will have unlimited online storage using the Cloud.
  • The Chromebooks only have 2 GB's of memory.  Remember again that you won't be needing memory to power up unneeded programs the 2 GIGs is dedicated to exactly what the main intention of the Chromebook was meant to do - browse and interact with the web.
  • Battery life is 8 hours plus so you can stay out all day and not have to worry about charging or plugging in.
  • With Chromebooks you have a choice of connecting through wi-fi or 3G.  3G is through a subscription with Verizon with plans that start at Free for 100MB of data per month ( for years included with Chromebook purchase) with additional charges for day passes and bandwith.
  • Security is built right in so there is no need for virus protection software.                                                                                samsung Chromebook
  • Since your data is stored on the Cloud if you lose or forget your Chromebook and you need to access your data you can log into another Chromebook and you can retrieve your data - and your data is safe. While more than one person can use a Chromebook your data is only retrievable by you.
  • No need to update any software as the Chromebook will automatically update if needed as you boot up ( and yes boot up is only 8 seconds) soft boot is basically instant on.
  • The keyboard on the Chromebooks are built for the web with many keys specifically created to make browsing fast & easy.
  • As you would expect the Chromebooks have a built in webcam, speakers, usb ports and HDMI port.

All your favorite apps are at your fingertips and with the Chromebooks being about the size of an 11" netbook and weighing about 3 pounds, you'll find that you will want to take your every where you go.

Toshiba NB505-N508BL Netbook With Intel 1.66 GHz Atom N455 Processor

by 10 Inch Laptops No comments »

The Toshiba NB505-N508BL 10.1 inch netbook is just 1.4 inches thin

Netbooks have always been the preferred "laptop" for mobile computing and the Toshiba NB505-N508BL is making it easier for you to use your netbook just as you would your laptop.

Toshiba NB505-N508BL 10.1-Inch NetbookToshiba NB505-N508BL Netbook

In the past although netbboks were a great option when you needed to tote around a laptop but didn't want the weight, the size or the short battery life of a standard laptop.  However, many netbooks lacked many of the features that you wanted and therefore had to put up with slow uploads and downloads in addition to slower processing speeds.

This Toshiba NB505-N508BL is changing the way we look at netbooks and you will find that many of the shortcomings of netbooks of past years and objections that you may have had before have been eliminated.

Starting with the faster 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N455 processor which can give you the response that you want and need. Unlike previous processors, the N455 can handle more tasks without getting bogged down.

Although the hard drive is not huge at 250GB it is protected with a 3D impact sensor so it will be less impacted with vibrations or by receiving knocks.

A nice features is the wireless N wi-fi which you will find much faster than previous versions. And yes, it is backward compatible with the 802.11 g networks, so if your home has an older router it will be compatible. You must remember however, that if you are using an older router at home or at an internet cafe you will be limited by the router speed and will not be able to take advantage of the N speed.  If you will be using your netbook at home much of the time, it might be worth it to upgrade your older router.

When looking into this netbook I did notice that it comes with the Windows 7 Starter version which may not have all the components that you are use to ( you can upgrade ).  You may also want to spring for additional memory as this netbook comes with 1 GB and is upgradable to 2GB DDR2 Ram.
This particular model is in the blue color but there are several color options available.
